President-elect Donald Trump recently expressed growing concern about a wave of unexplained drone sightings that have been reported throughout the United States, particularly near his Bedminster, New Jersey golf course.
He suggested that government officials may be withholding crucial information about these incidents.
Trump’s Concerns Over Transparency
At a press conference, Trump claimed that the U.S. military has a solid understanding of where these drones are originating from and their flight paths but has opted not to share that information with the public.
His remarks imply that pinpointing the drones’ launch sites should be a straightforward task for military authorities.
These comments came amidst an ongoing inquiry into the unidentified aerial phenomena, which have captured attention due to numerous reports from local residents and law enforcement near Trump’s golf club.
Frustrated with the lack of transparency from officials, he noted that the growing interest in the sightings warrants clearer communication.
Official Response and Investigation
In light of rising concerns, National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby responded to the media on Monday, affirming that the Biden administration is focused on transparency regarding the drone sightings.
He clarified that most reported incidents involve drones operating legally within the U.S. airspace.
Kirby elaborated that these drone activities are likely a combination of commercially used drones, recreational devices, law enforcement tools, and potentially misidentified conventional aircraft.
To alleviate public anxiety surrounding these drone sightings, federal and state officials released a joint statement on December 12.
The FBI and the Department of Homeland Security reassured that there’s no current evidence of a national security threat stemming from these occurrences.
Misidentifications and Ongoing Investigations
The agencies confirmed that their investigations have not found connections to foreign entities.
Collaborative efforts with the New Jersey State Police are ongoing, aimed at distinguishing whether the reported sightings are indeed drones or misinterpreted aircraft activity.
Furthermore, the statement highlighted that many of the reports may have inaccurately classified manned aircraft as drones.
Authorities acknowledged earlier instances of misidentification in similar cases and continue their investigations to ensure accurate understanding of the phenomena.
