In January 2025, Mark Vroegop was chosen as the third president of The Gospel Coalition (TGC), as revealed by Board Chairman Juan Sánchez.
The selection was unanimous among the ministry’s council, highlighting a strong consensus around Vroegop’s commitment to both the local church and the mission to propagate the Gospel.
Leadership Journey
Vroegop has led College Park Church in Indianapolis, Indiana, since 2008.
His journey with TGC began in 2018 when he joined the council, and he progressed to the board in 2023.
He will officially take office on March 3, following the interim presidency of Sandy Willson.
Significant Contributions
This announcement comes just before TGC celebrates its 20th anniversary, which will take place during the conference in April in Indianapolis.
The theme for this special occasion is “Alive Together: Faithful Living in a Faithless Age.” Vroegop is also an accomplished author, best known for his book “Dark Clouds, Deep Mercy: Discovering the Grace of Lament.” Before his time in Indianapolis, he served at Calvary Baptist Church in Holland, Michigan, from 1996 until 2008.
He earned his bachelor’s degree from Cedarville University and a master’s degree in divinity from Cornerstone Theological Seminary.
Personal Life and Values
In a notable decision in 2020, Vroegop stepped down from the Cedarville University Board of Trustees.
He expressed his concerns regarding the university’s decision to reinstate a president who had previously appointed someone with a history of sexual abuse.
On a personal note, Vroegop is married and is the proud father of four children, as well as two grandchildren.
