Taxpayer Funds Controversial Animal Experiments on Transgender Subjects Exposed in Hearing

A recent study unveiled $10 million in taxpayer funds for controversial animal experiments on transgender subjects, raising ethical concerns during a congressional hearing.

A recent congressional hearing revealed a troubling investigation conducted by the White Coat Waste Project, a nonprofit organization dedicated to tracking government spending.

The findings suggested that over $10 million in taxpayer funds have been used for controversial animal research involving transgender subjects, specifically targeting mice, rats, and monkeys.

This inquiry highlighted disturbing associations between certain Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) grants and painful procedures involving hormone treatments on laboratory animals across the nation.

Investigating Taxpayer Funding

During a subcommittee session last week aimed at examining animal welfare funded by taxpayers, Representative Nancy Mace, a Republican from South Carolina known for her outspoken criticism of gender-related policies, brought attention to the study’s alarming results.

The hearing was provocatively titled “Transgender Lab Rats and Poisoned Puppies: Oversight of Taxpayer Funded Animal Cruelty.”

Representative Mace highlighted several key findings, including a $2.5 million investment made by the Biden administration for research on fertility rates in transgender mice.

She also pointed to a $1.1 million project that explored the effects of testosterone therapy on female rats, which were treated as transgender males.

This study aimed to assess the potential risks of overdose on a party drug often linked to the LGBT community.

Ethical Concerns Raised

Mace raised ethical concerns about another study involving hormone treatments administered to male monkeys, intended to evaluate whether these interventions could make them more susceptible to HIV.

Critically, she noted that these primates are not capable of contracting the virus, and she challenged the administration’s promotion of what she described as an extreme gender ideology, suggesting that the ethical and scientific merits of such experiments were deeply flawed.

Citing a staggering 90% failure rate for drugs deemed successful in animal studies but ultimately ineffective in human trials, Mace underscored how such testing often yields results that fail to translate to human biology.

At the hearing, Justin Goodman from the White Coat Waste Project presented alongside a group of rescued beagles from a laboratory supplier linked to the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

He remarked that the U.S. government is the largest proponent of animal testing, estimating that taxpayers waste upwards of $20 billion each year on experiments that lack efficacy and humane standards, affecting millions of animals both domestically and internationally.

Funding and Research Implications

Goodman further revealed that his organization had uncovered more than $240 million in NIH grants allocated for transgender animal research, with $26 million currently in ongoing funding.

He noted that some studies examine the effects of substances involved in sexual activity or hormonal treatments intended to change the reproductive structures of lab animals.

Notably, a large portion of this funding originates from the National Institute for Allergy and Infectious Diseases, under the leadership of Dr. Anthony Fauci.

In relation to the national DEI initiative, several U.S. colleges and universities received funding for academic projects designed to promote inclusivity.

Last year alone, nearly $1 million was allocated to three institutions with the goal of enhancing biology courses for transgender students, claiming that these classes often misrepresent sex and gender as binary concepts.

This investigation and discussion raise critical questions about how taxpayer dollars are utilized in the animal research sector and the ethical implications of experiments backed by government funding.
