The pastor of Fairview Baptist Church, founded in 1806 and recognized as the second oldest church in Buncombe County, described the severe trials facing families months after the disaster.
Royal conveyed the conviction shared by his congregation: healing is ultimately in God’s hands, even though the road to recovery is lengthy and laden with grief.

Fairview Baptist Church witnessed profound destruction caused by Hurricane Helene.
Entire neighborhoods were wiped out, and around 100 homes in Fairview were lost to the storm.
Tragically, the disaster captured international headlines when a family of 11 perished in a devastating mudslide.
Royal noted how the landscape and fabric of the community have transformed dramatically, leaving residents grappling with loss.
Many individuals found themselves starting from scratch, and Royal stressed the church’s commitment to assisting those affected.
Their outreach initiatives focus on helping displaced families prepare for winter by providing winterized campers.
He recounted a touching encounter with a single mother who broke down in tears upon receiving insulation for her camper—a simple gesture that provided her some relief during a difficult time.

While the wounds from the storm are deep and healing will take time, Royal reaffirmed the church’s mission: to serve as a source of love and support for those in distress.
