Elderly Woman Stabbed to Death in Herzliya During Hanukkah Celebration

An 83-year-old woman was fatally stabbed in Herzliya by a former informant for Israel, who was subdued by security forces during the attack.

A devastating incident unfolded in Herzliya, central Israel, on Friday morning, claiming the life of 83-year-old Ludmila Lipovsky.

The elderly woman tragically succumbed to injuries sustained in a stabbing attack carried out by a Palestinian man.

Reports from both the Israel Police and Magen David Adom (MDA) indicated that Lipovsky was critically wounded and was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at a hospital in Tel Aviv.

Details of the Attack

The attacker, who has been identified as a resident of Tulkarm in Samaria, was previously known to local authorities as an informant.

During the assault, he wielded a knife against Lipovsky before being apprehended by security personnel nearby.

Following the incident, he was reported in serious condition and has since been taken into custody for further investigation.

Notably, the Israeli domestic intelligence agency Shin Bet confirmed that this suspect had a past involvement in security operations aimed at countering terrorism in the Judea and Samaria regions.

Eyewitness Accounts

Eyewitnesses and emergency responders painted a harrowing picture of the scene.

When they arrived, they found Lipovsky unconscious and suffering from multiple stab wounds just outside her assisted living facility.

Staff at the facility revealed that she had been waiting outside for her daughter, who was scheduled to take her to a doctor’s appointment, at the time of the attack.

Witnesses reported hearing screams and later found her lying on the ground.

Security Response

In a remarkable display of prompt action, security personnel from the Israel Postal Services played a crucial role in neutralizing the assailant.

Their Courier Unit’s responders acted quickly to subdue the attacker during the unfolding crisis.

An investigation into the incident is currently underway, with Police Commissioner Daniel Levy making a visit to the scene shortly thereafter.

He expressed deep sorrow over the loss, especially poignant during the festive season of Hanukkah, and reassured the public of the police’s commitment to ensuring safety in communal areas.

Levy emphasized that security forces remain vigilant and prepared to tackle threats, reaffirming their dedication to protecting the citizens of Israel during these trying times.
